Analysis Testing

At North Queensland Flood Restorations, we specialise in detailed water damage inspections, Structural Drying and Mould remediation.

What is a  ATP swab test? And Why do we use them.

ATP Stands for (Adenosine Triphosphate) it is an organic molecule used by living organic cells as a source of energy.

The reason why we use Ultrasnap ATP swabs along with Systemsure Plus luminometer is to determine the level of surface contamination for viable fungi, moulds  and related microbial organisms and environmental biological matter.

It is used before and after cleaning a surface to determine the degree of organic cells present.

The purpose of the sampling is to determine the level of biological surface contamination of building materials pre and Post remediation.

The initial swab test will usually have a high organic cell Count, once the surface has been cleaned and sanitised with an antimicrobial/disinfectant a second swab test is completed to determine if the surface has been adequately cleaned / sanitised to a safe level.

We use ATP Swab testing to ensure all surfaces that are cleaned are hygienically cleaned to a safe

Bio Tape swab are used to take surface samples of suspected mould contaminated areas.

These samples are then sent to Laboratories to determine the type and degree of contamination.

Bio-Tape™ provides a standardised sampling method for the determination of mould, microbial, bioaerosol, and inorganic dust contamination. It provides the ability to quickly take a sample and measure the relative degree of contamination.

Bio-Tape™ consists of a flexible plastic microscope slide with a pre-defined adhesive area. Each slide is provided with a unique serial number for traceability and packed in a slide mailer to prevent cross contamination.

Zefon Air-O-Cell Mould Sampling Cassettes

The Air-O-Cell ® is a unique sampling cassette designed for the rapid collection of a wide range of both viable and non-viable aero-allergens including mould spores, pollen, insect parts, skin cells, fibres and inorganic particulate.

The Air-O-Cell® operates upon the principle of inertial impaction. Particulate laden air is accelerated as it is drawn through the cassette’s tapered inlet slit and directed towards a small slide containing the collection media, where the particles become impacted, and the air flow continues out the exit orifice.

The adhesive nature of the collection media prevents the collected particulate from blurring or washing off during the staining process, and eliminates sample loss from vibration during handling and shipment.

After sampling is completed, the cassettes are sent to a laboratory, where the slides are removed and direct microscopic analysis can be immediately performed. The collection media is compatible with a wide range of biological stains and refractive index oils, allowing direct qualitative and quantitative analysis of organic and inorganic particulate.
